Rising Bunker Prices - 03/01/2011

Dear Customer,

CSAV is following with concern the developments in the Middle East which have already resulted in a significant rise in oil prices directly impacting operational costs.

CSAV is doing everything possible under its control to minimize the impact of this significant cost increase by improving efficiencies in all operational aspects, however it is inevitable that part of this impact will have to be transferred to our service tariffs, otherwise the overall business sustainability in the long run will be at risk.

We will keep you informed on any new developments in this regard

Best regards,

CSAV Group

New Customs Rule (10+2) for USA Import Cargo - 12/15/2008

Import Security Filing and Additional Requirements (10+2) Regulation Effective 1/25/09

Dear Valued Customer,

On November 25, 2008, the US Department of Homeland Security published the Final Interim Rule for "Import Security Filing and Additional Requirements" (10+2). This regulation imposes new requirements on importers of cargo entering the United States by vessels, with the purpose of enhancing port security and ensuring cargo safety.

Currently, importers are required to file entry information with USCBP within 15 calendar days of the date of arrival of a shipment at a United States port of entry. Importers must also submit entry summary information within 10 working days of the entry of the merchandise. The new regulation requires Importer Security Filing (ISF) importers or their agents to provide specific cargo information to USCBP at least 24 hours before the cargo is laden aboard a vessel destined to the United States.

The new regulation will take effect January 25, 2009. USCBP will commence full enforcement of the new regulation on January 25, 2010.

Beginning January 25, 2009, Importers will be required to submit the following 10 data elements.

  • Seller
  • Buyer
  • Importer of record
  • Consignee number
  • Manufacturer or supplier
  • Ship to Party
  • Country of Origin
  • Harmonized Commodity Code
  • Container Stuffing Location
  • Consolidator

Cargo for which the above information has not been received in full and timely, US Customs is requesting not be loaded.

CSAV appreciates our customers' best efforts to ensure that together we will comply with the new USCBP requirements. Our policy implementation for this regulation will follow shortly. Should you have any questions regarding the new regulations, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service Team.

Mandatory U.S. Automated Export System (AES) Filing and Reporting - 09/09/2008

Dear Valued Customer,

The US Census Bureau has issued new regulations that effect all Export Shippers and Carriers requiring all shipments to have a "Shippers Export Declaration" (SED) filed with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. As a result of this new regulation, US Customs requires all Export Shippers to present their Shippers Export Declaration to Carriers, 24 hours prior to vessel loading. In addition, the U.S. Census Bureau is requiring mandatory filing of export information through the Automated Export System (AES) or through AESDirect for all shipments where a Shippers Export Declaration (SED) is required. This new rule is being implemented on September 30, 2008 in all U.S. ports.

In order to fully comply with the required regulations, CSAV is requesting all Shippers/NVOCCs and Forwarders to present complete shipping instruction documentation, including internal transaction numbers (ITN) and or exemption clause citations under master instructions. In order for the Carrier to meet with these mandates, documentation cut-off times will be adjusted 24 - 48 hours prior to vessel loading to comply with these new regulations. CSAV will be notifying you shortly of the new cut-off times by service. We do not anticipate any changes in container pro forma cut-off times at the ports.

This new regulation will be strictly enforced by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at all U.S. ports of exit. The new penalty provision has increased to $10,000 per incident.

Please note, if required documentation is not received timely by the Carrier, the Shipper of record will not have scheduled export cargo loaded for shipment and will be subject to all associated costs and or fines.

If you have any questions regarding this new policy, please do not hesitate to contact your Sales or Customer Service Representative, 1-800-804-9391.

Sincerely,

CSAV North America

Empty Returns Online (No Registration Required.) - 8/9/2006

CSAV Agency is proud to announce two new features which should improve trucking operations by clearly communicating empty container return instructions for import containers. We are activating our newest online tool called "Empty Return Online". This new online tool will be available to the entire United States market with the exception of Miami, and it will allow CSAV customers and the trucking communities ready access to empty container return instructions. Customers can easily find the drop-off destination of empty containers, obtain the redelivery numbers for offhire boxes, and print split chassis purchase orders online without making a single phone call.

This tool is available on the www.csavagency-na.com website or by clicking here. By simply entering the container number you will obtain container return instructions up to 5 days prior to the vessel discharging. The Container Return instructions will contain the full address and telephone number for the return location.

You will also be able to create and print a Purchase Order on the same screen for the split chassis charges. These Purchase Orders should then be submitted with the trucker invoice for payment.

We are also rolling out a newly formatted Arrival Notice which will contain the same empty container return instructions for each container in the shipment. These rich-text color formatted Arrival Notices are normally sent to the Consignee and Notify Parties five (5) days prior to vessel arrival and will clearly indicate if a container is going off hire. Truckers can then go to the CSAV Agency - NA website to create and print a purchase order without ever having to call our office.

The goal is to pro-actively provide the information to our customers and truckers by leveraging web technology and simplifying the empty return process. No longer will you have to make a phone call to obtain empty container return instructions. We hope these enhancements will improve coordination and communications, and welcome any suggestions that you may have.
